Why Polyurethane (PU) Injection is the Ultimate Cure for Concrete Cracks

Why Polyurethane (PU) Injection is the Ultimate Cure for Concrete Cracks

Concrete is incredibly strong, but it is not impervious to cracking. Settlement, thermal expansion, and hydrostatic pressure can all lead to cracks that invite water into basements and foundations.

Historically, repairing these leaks meant excavating the exterior or injecting rigid cement grouts. Today, Polyurethane (PU) Injection is the gold standard.

How it Works

PU resin is injected under high pressure directly into the crack. When the resin comes into contact with water, a chemical reaction occurs. The fluid expands up to 30 times its original volume, forming a dense, closed-cell foam.

The Benefits

  • Flexibility: Unlike cement, PU foam remains flexible. As the building shifts, the seal stretches and maintains its integrity.
  • Speed: The expansion reaction happens in seconds, immediately halting even heavy active water flows.
  • Deep Penetration: Since it is injected as a low-viscosity liquid, it travels deep into the micro-fissures of the concrete before expanding.
